FRANK TURNER (UK)

British folk punk artist Frank Turner returns to Finland to play a gig at Tavastia on December 7th. After performing solo at Pitkä kuuma kesä last month, this time he'll get on the stage with a band. Turner's third album will be released in autumn.

Deathcore band Bring Me The Horizon pay their long-awaited first visit to Finland on October 14th. The gig takes place at Nosturi.

LAPKO NEWS

Acclaimed alternative band Lapko will start the recordings of their fourth album in early July. The band will work on the yet untitled piece, due in the beginning of 2010, at The Clubhouse Studios in New York, USA for a good month.

The album will be produced, recorded and mixed by top producer D. James Goodwin, well known for his work with Thursday, Norah Jones and The Bravery. Goodwin visited Lapko in Finland in May-June, when they worked on the album’s pre-production at the band’s rehearsal space.

MR. BIG (USA)

Hardrock's super line-up Mr. Big arrive at Finland on their reunion tour. The band will play circa two-hour set of hardrock evergreens at Nosturi on September 6th.

CHUCK RAGAN (USA) + SCOTT KELLY (USA)

Hot Water Music vocalist Chuck Ragan plays two shows in Finland in autumn. The first gig takes place at Lutakko’s Kickstart in Jyväskylä on September 18th and the second one in Bar Loose in Helsinki the day after. Both shows will be opened by domestic Jaakko & Jay.

Neurosis vocalist Scott Kelly plays two acoustic solo gigs in Finland in summer. On June 25th, the artist shares the stage of Tavastia with Swedish Candlemass and on July 2nd, he performs at Klubi, Turku along with domestic 5 Bars.

RAISED FIST (SWE)

Swedish hardcore band Raised Fist return to Finland soon after their last weekend's gig at Provinssirock. The band first play a club show at Nosturi on September 25th and perform at Scooprock in Mikkeli the day after.

We are also happy to announce that The Haunted (SWE) will play at Scooprock in Mikkeli on September 26th and at Klubi, Turku on September 27th.

British indie rock band Baddies will play their first Finnish club gig in Nosturi on October 21st after visiting Provinssirock last weekend. The evening will be opened by domestic Cosmobile.

COSMOBILE SIGNS WITH FULLSTEAM

Helsinki based indie band Cosmobile has inked a recording deal with Fullsteam Records. The first single from their yet unnamed upcoming album will be released later this summer, followed up by the album release in the fall. During its relatively short lifespan, the band has already shared stages with bands such as Yeasayer, Oh No Ono, Frog Eyes, Deerhoof and Devotschka.

A new track called Curtain from the upcoming album is now streaming at the the band's MySpace page.

THE EMOCORE INVASION TOUR 2009

Swedish emocore bands Intohimo and Saving Joshua arrive at Finland for two gigs in June as part of their The Emocore Invasion Tour 2009. The first show takes place at Semifinal in Helsinki on June 6th and the next one at Klubi in Turku on June 7th.

Swedish singer-songwriter Loney Dear's concert on May 22nd has been moved from Tavastia to Korjaamo due to scheduling reasons. Bought tickets are valid as such for the new venue.

Callisto's European tour has been forced to cancel due to lead singer Jani Ala-Hukkala's appendicitis. He has now been operated and is currently on strong medication. Fortunately, Jani's condition is stable, but his elevated CRP requires close monitoring and running more tests over the weekend. Read more here.

Disco Ensemble are soon going to release new material. "Back on the MF Street" ep is due in Finland April 22nd and elsewhere May 1st. Street Dogs' European tour has been post-poned to autumn, and thus their show at Nosturi on April 27th has been cancelled as well. The band's tour will be rescheduled but as no substitute show has been confirmed by far, pre-sale tickets can be returned to the point of purchase by the end of May.

MESHUGGAH (SWE) CANCELLED

Swedish metal band Meshuggah are forced to cancel their upcoming Scandinavian tour including shows in Tampere and Helsinki due drummer Tomas Haake's back problems.

We’re VERY, VERY sorry to have to bring you these news, but we have to cancel the upcoming Scandinavian dates!  Tomas Haake has had some back-related problems lately, problems that have been messing with his right foot/leg when playing drums.  Tomas had an MRI about a week ago and the results came back early this week. Seems he has a herniated disc in his lower back and this is what’s been causing problems for him when playing, says Meshuggah in their statement.

JAAKKO & JAY NEWS

Tampere-based folk punk duo Jaakko & Jay have signed a record deal with Fullsteam Records. To give the co-operation a real flying start, the band are heading to the U.S. as we speak to play shows for example at South by Southwest festival in Austin and at NME's club night in New York.

In addition to the forthcoming gigs (see the whole list at shows), Jaakko & Jay are getting ready for the recordings of their debut album due in autumn. There's no need to wait for quite that long though, as a 7" vinyl ep will be released later in spring.

Cradle of Filth (UK) and Lapko have been added to the bill of Kivenlahti Rock festival, taking place in Espoo on June 5th-7th 2009.

One of the top names in modern psychedelic indie rock, American Wooden Shjips, arrive at Finland in summer. The show will take place at Tavastia on June 4th, with domestic alternative rock band Murmansk warming up the stage.

American Celtic punk band Street Dogs will play at Nosturi on April 27th with their British mates, punk rock / rockabilly group The Grit. Both bands were last seen in Finland in 2007.

Callisto's third album Providence will be released in Finland on February 18th. International release dates can be found at Callisto's website.

Providence is produced, engineered and mixed by Jonas Olsson and mastered by Svante Forsbäck. The artwork is contributed by Martin Kvamme of Unit Delta Plus (Satyricon, Fantomas, Turbonegro).

NO SHAME LOOKING FOR NEW DRUMMER

Drummer Teemu Horto has decided to leave No Shame to concentrate on his family. The decision is not based on any internal conflicts or drama. No Shame, one of Finland's most popular punk bands, are now looking for a new drummer, who, in addition to the obvious musicianship, should be interested in active international touring. The band finished their new album last autumn and it will be released during the on-going year once the new drummer has been selected. No Shame are on a touring hiatus 'til the new line-up is properly up and running.

OPETH'S SHOW CANCELLED!!!

Opeth's sold out show tonight is cancelled due to the vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt's illness. The band had already arrived in Finland and all construction works were completed at Kaapelitehdas.

NEW CONFIRMED ACTS

David Sandström used to play drums in legendary hardcore group Refused. Now he has a band of his own: David Sandström Overdrive (SWE). The band is going to play their first shows in Finland on January 14th at Klubi (Turku) and January 15th at Kuudes Linja (Helsinki).

One of the most hyped new British punk bands is Lovvers (UK) who are now coming to play two shows in Finland with local punk rockers Nazi Death Camp: 20th of January at Semifinal (Helsinki) and on the next at Klubi (Turku).

CALLISTO NEWS

Callisto's third album Providence will be released in Finland on February 18th. The album’s debut single Covenant Colours is now streaming on the band’s MySpace.

The single and the album will also be the debut for the band’s new vocalist Jani Ala-Hukkala, whose screaming and clean vocals mark a new element in the band’s sonic palette. None of the original members have left the band, and Callisto’s former vocalist Markus Myllykangas continues with the band as a guitarist.

After a year’s hiatus in touring, the band returns to the stage at Estonia’s Green Christmas festival on December 12th along with Volbeat and Dark Tranquillity.

DAMN SEAGULLS IN STUDIO

Damn Seagulls are currently recording their third full-length due in February 2009 in Studio Mankku, Porvoo and Hästholmen, Helsinki. Mixed by Jussi Jaakonaho who has previously worked with 22-Pistepirkko, the album will be both recorded and produced by the band except for the vocals that will be produced by Miikka Koivisto from Disco Ensemble.

The first single from the yet untitled record will be released later this month. Damn Seagulls will perform at Popkomm next week and you can also watch the band's video blog on their Myspace to get a sneak preview of their new material.

DISCO ENSEMBLE NEWS

Disco Ensemble's break through album First Aid Kit has gone gold in Finland. Released in 2005, the album reached the gold record limit in the end of August. Disco Ensemble received their gold records at sold out show at Virgin Oil Co. last Friday. The gold record celebrations were the first of their kind for both the band and Fullsteam Records.

The third, mid-priced edition of First Aid Kit has just recently hit the stores, as the previous two are sold out. The new version of Disco Ensemble's gold selling sophomore album includes all the tracks from both the 2005 and 2006 editions.

The second Lost in Music -festival has announced its first performers. Occupying Tampere’s gig venues from October 22nd to 25th, the festival bill features Black Bile, Bloodpit, Disco Ensemble, I Was A Teenage Satan Worshipper, Ismo Alanko Teholla, Jesse, Kastor, Pintandwefall, Sturm und Drang and The Wrecking Queens.

DISCO ENSEMBLE TO WARPED TOUR,

We are extremely proud to announce that Disco Ensemble are the first Finnish band ever to play the huge Warped Tour in the United States. Warped Tour is a touring music and extreme sports festival that takes place from June to August and features up to 100 bands a show. The mega tour includes artists from various genres from ska to hardcore, and the 2008 bill features the likes of Against Me!, Pennywise and Rise Against to name but a few. Disco Ensemble will play some 20 shows during July, precise dates can be found at Shows.

The American alt-country artist Phosphorescent will hit Kuudes Linja on April 28th. The forthcoming concert will be the first in Finland for this singer/songwriter. Tickets 12 €, pre-sale at Tiketti.

TURBONEGRO (NOR) CANCELLED SHOWS

Due to a serious illness of Euroboy, the guitarist of the Norwegian death punk band Turbonegro, all future Turbonegro concerts have been cancelled so far. Hence the band will not be able to perform on the forthcoming Volcom Tour Europe and so the planned two concerts in Finland, Tampere, Pakkahuone April 7th and Helsinki, Nosturi April 8th are cancelled. Valient Thorr and Year Long Disaster are not coming to Finland on those dates either. Turbonegro will work on rescheduling the dates later but at the moment, all tickets can be returned to box offices they were bought from.

Stoner rock band Mustasch will hit Tavastia on May 9th. This Swedish Grammy -award winning group last visited Finland in February. Tickets 16 €, pre-sale starts at Tiketti tomorrow.

Tarja Turunen will play her first club gig at Tavastia on June 3rd. The concert is part of the artist's Tarja-Storm in Europe 2008 -tour and will be the only chance to see her live in Finland this spring. Tickets 35 €, pre-sale starts at Tiketti on March 20th.

The American alternative rock band Kill Hannah will play their first concerts in Finland as a warm-up act for the horror rock band Aiden at Nosturi on April 20th and 21st. The latter gig is already sold out but there are still some tickets available for the show on April 20th. Tickets, 15€, are for sale at Tiketti and Lippupalvelu.
 
Anti-Flag will arrive at Finland in July to play a festival gig at Ruisrock. The band, well-known for their political activism, have previously played two gigs in Finland. Ruisrock takes place in Ruissalo, Turku, from Jul 4th to Jul 6th.
 
The Japanese metal band Boris will play their first concerts in Finland in May. The band will hit both Tavastia, Helsinki, on May 2nd with Growing (USA) and Klubi, Turku, on May 3rd with Growing (USA) and Medeia. Tickets 12 €, pre-sale at Tiketti.

MEDEIA SIGN WITH FULLSTEAM RECORDS

Finnish alternative death metal band Medeia has signed with Fullsteam Records. Over the last couple of years the group with the organic, modernly heavy sound has become one of Finland's most talked about up-and-coming metal bands, and the expectations for Medeia are being raised to new heights with this recent deal.

Medeia will first release an as yet unnamed MCD in April which will soon be followed in autumn by the band's highly anticipated full-length album. Medeia previously released a self-financed, now sold-out record in 2006 titled "Quantum Holocaust: World Domination".

John Spencer's and Matt Verta-Ray's Heavy Trash will play with The Micragirls and Black Magic Six at Tavastia on March 3rd. Tickets 17 euros, pre-sale at Tiketti.

Swedish hardcore band's NINE and Path of No Return had to cancel their whole tour in Finland. Here's band's statement:

"Regretfully we have to announce that NINE and Path of No Return's upcoming tour of Finland is forced to be postponed.

The reason for this late decision is strictly family related and a cancellation was the only option at this point. We really want to extend our apologies to the promoters and the people that bought tickets.

Indie rock band Rubik has been nominated for Finnish Breakthrough Act in Emma-gaala (local Grammy awards). Earlier this week we found out that Rubik is also nominated in Femma-gaala (indie Grammy's) for Best pop band.

Töni Köskinen will play his last show as a bass player for Damn Seagulls on Friday 14th of September in Virgin Oil Co., Helsinki. New bass player Olli Noroviita already played with the band on last week’s shows in Joensuu, Kajaani and Oulu. The shows we’re great and Olli did a great job, earning the audiences’ applause.

Next Friday’s show will also be the last one for Kelly Ketonen, who played drums on the summer gigs. Damn Seagulls would like to thank Kelly for his great help, company and many things we learned from him.

Swedish death metal -legend Entombed is coming to tour in Finland in September. The gigs are a part of their new Serpent Saints -albums tour.

A serie of five acoustic solo gigs performed by a bunch of current Finnish artists take place at Bar Loose (Fredrikinkatu 34) starting this Wednesday. The repertory consists of their own material and some surprising cover versions too. Each performance will be supported by a varying guest Dj's set.

Unfortunately Hatebreed cancelled their show in Ilosaarirock. The band was added to Ozzfest bill and therefore is not able to play in Europe in July.

Hatebreed will still perform in Finland this Summer as the band just confirmed that they will play in Provinssirock in mid-June.
