The ultimate soundtrack to any bar fight anywhere!
Formed by Aku Raski (Huoratron) and Tuomas Laitinen in 2005, Them Shepherds is a Helsinki-based duo that imaginatively marries organic instruments with electronic sounds. Raski fervently pounds on classic Roland beatboxes and synthesizers, while Laitinen strums a guitar and handles the vocals. The result: an unholy alliance of machines and human touch.
Labeled electro-boogie by its authors, Them Shepherds? unique style draws in part from the old blues tradition, though the resulting sound is very much today. The band?s self-titled debut EP includes four original tracks, a cover of Danzig?s Mother and a remix by Timo Kaukolampi (e.g., Annie, Opel Bastards, Kilogram). The album features cover design by Vilunki 3000. It is distributed in Finland by Töölön Musiikkitukku.
On-stage, Them Shepherds deliver an overdose of doggone sweaty grooves, mixing southern delta blues guitar and electronic rhythms. The duo complement one another perfectly: defying the restrained, lowkey machine wizard stereotype, Raski?s extravagant presence is best described as furious; add to that Laitinen?s psychotically cool charisma and you have a pack that simply works. In the autumn 2005, Them Shepherds performed in China as part of the Sounds Like Suomi tour. |
